Apps that speak.

RedZoc makes apps that speak: tools that help blind and low-vision people, and anyone who prefers to listen, read and get around. Every app is built for screen readers from day one.

Coach Mitra

Coming soon

Helps blind and low-vision train passengers in India find their coach. Point your phone at the arriving train, and Coach Mitra reads the coach codes aloud (S5, B2, A1) and vibrates when it finds yours.

How RedZoc builds apps

  • Screen reader first.

Every screen is built and tested with TalkBack.

  • Made for India, used worldwide.

Indian languages and real Indian situations come first.

Made by one person

RedZoc is made by Ramees Muhammed, a software architect in Kochi who uses a screen reader every day and tests every release with TalkBack. Ramees also contributes fixes to the open-source eSpeak NG project, including better reading of Sinhala and mixed-language text.

Contributions to eSpeak NG

Fixes made for RedZoc's apps are sent back to the official eSpeak NG project, so every eSpeak NG user benefits. These have been merged:

  • Sinhala: conjunct letters are read as one sound, as they should be.
  • Mixed-language text: words that switch script, such as Malayalam with English letters, are read in each language instead of being spelled out.
  • Arabic: text in Arabic script is now recognised as Arabic.
  • Dictionaries: a bug that let long entries create wrong pronunciations is fixed. It was found while fixing how Sinhala reads numbers.

One more, reading stylised social-media fonts as normal text, is under review.
